Calvin Christian School Fundraiser the "Terry Fox Marathon of Hope" for Cancer Research raised over $17 000!
On September 30th, classes of very enthusiatic students walked
along West 5th street,Mohawk Road, and then around the CCS
property. They were carrying signs and chanting“Terry Fox”.
Two weeks prior to this fundraising event, the entire school viewed news reel clips showing historical footage of the heroic "Marathon of Hope" which Terry Fox initiated 35 years earlier. Calvin Christian School students were inspired by the heroism of this Canadian, who ran a marathon each day in
spite of the obstacles of pain, lack of initial support, and poor weather conditions.
This year marked the 35th anniversary of that first marathon. Students raised funds in memory of Terry Fox. They also raised funds because they know someone personally who is affected by cancer. There were signs posted on the walls in the hallways, with brief explanations of what motivated the students to raise funds for Cancer research. Students were encouraged to ask for support online or in person, and ask they did!! An astounding $17, 936.81 was raised for cancer research. This amount far surpassed the original goal of $12 000. The money raised, the community outreach, and the energy and enthusiasm were demonstrations of our school theme this year, “Build Your Kingdom Here.”
To God be the glory for such a wonderful day!
