New Year's Resolutions!
Couch-to-5k. Have you ever heard of this running program? A couch sounds cozy and comfortable, but running for five entire kilometers? That might sound like the farthest from comfortable to you! However, programs like the "Couch-to-5k” are becoming increasingly popular. The truth is, in a culture that is becoming more and more sedentary, it's important for us to find ways to stay healthy and enjoy doing so! With our New Year's Resolutions fresh in our minds, maybe now is the time to think about making some healthy lifestyle changes!
The idea of running "for the love of it” is one of the main objectives behind the Calvin Christian School Cross Country Team. The coaches want our runners to do their best and run well in the different meets we participate in. But even more importantly, we want to teach these young runners to LOVE running! In the fall, we met each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to do just that. Not every run was a good run. Sudents sometimes ran with painful side cramps or sore legs, or sometimes tripped and fell. Other times there were tears. But through the difficulties, our runners learned how to run properly so that it would become easier with practice. They worked hard and improved significantly this season!
During the fall season this year at Calvin Christian School, the students would often run at school, and they would run with a parent or friend at home to help them with their training. As coaches, it was great to hear how some parents would take time to train with their children. Running has many health benefits, and it can also be a great time to connect by talking as you run together. Our cross country season has wrapped up for this year, but don't let that stop your resolve to make 2015 a fresh start with fresh, healthy goals! Couch-to-5K! You can do it!
