What's so great about Intramural Sports!
The past 5 months have been a whirlwind of adventures and firsts. For those of you who do not know me, I am the new grade 6C teacher, Ms. Deweerd. I was given the opportunity to help run the Intramural Program at CCS which has been a perfect fit with my passion for sports and love for organizing.
Our goal is to continuously create and provide a competitive, safe, and enjoyable atmosphere that encourages, teamwork and leadership development, as well as, a lifelong pattern of positive recreational activity regardless of physical ability. I believe the intramural program is an important aspect of a school community for many reason.
Intramurals are FUN!
I like playing intramural floor hockey because it is very fun and enjoyable. ~ Zach and Mason
I like it because it is very fun. I like how since the shifts are 2 minutes everyone gets several turns to play each position. ~Ally
I think intramurals is an awesome way to get all those who want to just come out and have fun involved in the sports that they enjoy. ~Jordan
Intramurals are INCLUSIVE
They provide something for everyone, regardless of their age, gender, size, shape, and ability. It allows students from multiple different classes and grades to come together as a team. The focus of intramurals is not winning but having a good time by all. This means fair playing time and the ability to try new things, such as positions.
Intramurals improve school COMMUNITY
Calvin Christian School has created a community within its walls that allow students to feel safe and comfortable in their learning. This community continues within the realm of sports. Students are put onto teams with students that they do not know but are asked to work as a team. Our welcoming and caring atmosphere allow students to feel that being put into a new situation is okay.
Intramurals increase children’s daily ACTIVITY
Many studies have been done that show a correlation between physical activity and academic achievement. By allowing students to be active during the school day it will increase focus and enjoyment. It is also very important that we instill the importance of being active for healthy living to our students.
Intramurals provide opportunities for LEADERSHIP
Our grade 8 students are given the opportunity to play a vital role in the running of intramurals. By having them ref and score keep the games if allows the younger students have a relationship with them and close the gap between grades.
I think intramurals is a great way to get all kids from grades 5-6 in sports because they can’t be on any school teams and there is always a great atmosphere in the gym when intramurals is going on ~ Justin B
As a ref, I think intramurals is a fun way to get kids involved. ~Ezra
I like helping Intramurals because you get to see kids having lots of fun. ~ Jordan
Intramurals allow students to use their bodies in praise to our LORD
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. ~1 Corinthians 6:19-20
