Academic Honesty
When using resources for
doing research, we must be careful not to steal from the author. The
copyright page in a book gives notice that somebody has legal rights in
the book. When writing reports, students are encouraged to form the
habit of documenting their sources to show where they got their facts.
At Calvin Christian School, students are taught how to document sources in grades 3 - 8. Typically, students are asked to write a "Works Cited," in which they document citations for the sources they use. They are typically not asked to write a "Bibliography," in which they would document citations for all the sources that they explored. In addition, students in grades 7 & 8 are taught how to do in-text documentation to reveal the source of their facts and ideas.
