High Marks For CCS!

Canadian Test of Basic Skills (2010)
In October, Calvin Christian School Students in grades 3-8 wrote the Canadian Tests of Basic Skills (CTBS) to obtain important feedback on instructional programs at CCS. This norm-referenced battery of tests is administered on a biannual basis and provides comparisons to a large sample of public, separate, and private school students across Canada. It includes twelve subtests, evaluating student knowledge in basic skill areas such as language arts, mathematics, science, and map reading.
Once again, the students at CCS performed at a very high level, and they are to be commended for their achievements. Each class demonstrated skills well above average in each of the subtest areas. The average student national percentile at CCS was 82. This means that the average student at CCS did as well or better than 82% of the students in the Canadian normative sample.
Supportive families, effective teachers and high quality programs are all important factors in high student achievement results. We express our thankfulness to the Lord for the blessings evidenced once again at CCS!

2009 Gauss Test
About 35 selected students from our grades 7 and 8 math classes participated in the 2009 Gauss math contest. There were at least 50 schools (mainly Christian or private) involved, adding up to about 800 student participants per grade level. Our grade 8 participants scored 3rd when comparing all the school for top 3 student averages, 2nd when comparing the top 6 averages, and 1st when comparing the top 10 averages and 1st with most students obtaining scores among the top 25%. Our grade 7 participants scored 10th among the top 10 schools for the top 3 student averages, scored 7th when comparing the top 6 averages, and 7th when comparing the top 110 averages and 4th with the most students obtaining scores among the top 25%. These are all excellent results and another reason to be pleased with the quality of education at CCS! We congratulate all our student participants with a job well done. the Gauss Mathematics Contest was developed by the University of Waterloo and administered for us by the Toronto District Christian high school math department. |
