Grade five and six students had the opportunity to learn about some brass instruments from musicians in the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra. What a fun, interactive presentation! The students were able to see and learn about the French horn, the tuba, and the trumpet. We learned about the history of some of these instruments, and how they are played.

After talking with some students after the performance about their favourite part, these were some of their answers:

"I loved hearing the songs the musicians played.

"I loved how a brass instrument can sound like a horse, or a plane!

"I learned the main parts of a brass instrument. And I learned that you can play music out of a garden hose!

"I loved the tuba! It plays really really low notes.

"I got to try playing the French horn. It was amazing!

We really enjoyed the HPO's visit. The students received a great introduction to the brass family of instruments, building their excitement for band class when they are in grade seven
