In late October students were able to sign up to be part  of the junior and senior Battle of the Books teams. They were given 8 books to read and had until February to hand in book reports for each of the books.

After many weeks of rereading, studying and practicing questions, the teams went to Fruitland Christian School on April 3 to compete against 6 other schools. Each team played 3 games and were awarded 5 points for about 80 questions about the books. At the end of the day the the scores were totaled and the winners were declared. Our senior teams won 1st (with a score of 380!) and 4th and the junior teams came in 2nd and 3rd in a very close race. All of their hard work had paid off and many of the first time readers were very excited to try out again next year. ol was able to have 2 teams for each division, 10 Senior and 14 Junior students were chosen. After that, the teams started practicing questions on all of the books during recesses.

Parents who were able to drive and come to support the students were very impressed by the detailed questions the teams were able to answer about the books. Coaches for the senior team were Mrs. G. Goodwin, Mrs. J. Vanderwindt, and for the Junior team, Mr. P. Veldhuis and Mrs. D. Heeg. Former teacher and coach Mrs. V. Kloet was also able to attend the day to read questions for the Junior team.
